Step 1: Enable ETD in Your FedEx Account
- Log in to your FedEx account.
- Go to My Profile > FedEx Electronic Trade Documents.
- Accept the terms and conditions.
- Upload your digital letterhead and electronic signature (if required).
- Save settings.
✅ Step 2: Gather Product Data (Needed for Customs Docs)
Make sure each product in Magento 2 has:
- Country of Manufacture:
- Go to Catalog > Products, edit the product, and set Country of Manufacture.
- HS Tariff Code (Harmonized System code for customs classification):
- If your extension supports it, create a product attribute for HS Code and assign it.
- Weight: Required for shipping labels and documents.
- Declared Value/Price: Comes from product price and order value.
✅ Step 3: Enable FedEx Shipping Method in Magento 2
- Go to Stores > Configuration > Sales > Shipping Methods > FedEx.
- Enable FedEx.
- Enter:
- FedEx Account Number
- Meter Number
- Authentication Key
- Password
- Choose shipping services (Priority, International Economy, etc.).
✅ Step 4: Enable ETD in Your Magento 2 FedEx Extension
- In the FedEx Shipping configuration (if your extension supports ETD):
- Look for Enable Electronic Trade Documents (ETD).
- Set it to Yes.
- Optionally, if your extension supports automatic commercial invoice generation, upload or create a template PDF or allow it to generate automatically from product attributes.
✅ Step 5: Test in Sandbox Mode
- Switch FedEx shipping to sandbox mode (available in extension settings).
- Create a test international order.
- Check if FedEx automatically uploads electronic trade documents.
- Review generated shipping labels and confirm that ETD status is shown.
✅ Step 6: Go Live
- Switch FedEx API credentials to live mode.
- Double-check all settings.
- Start shipping internationally — no manual document printing required!
