Please Note: The Magento 2 UPS Shipping REST API Extension is independently developed by EcomPlugins. It is not created, endorsed, or supported by UPS. This downloadable Magento 2 extension connects Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce stores with official UPS REST APIs for live shipping rates, advanced packaging calculations, label creation, tracking, and shipment management.
The extension is designed for merchants who need more control and flexibility than Magento’s standard UPS shipping integration. It adds advanced packaging rules, product-level dimensions, multi-package rating, shipping markups, free-shipping conditions, residential address detection, API caching, detailed logging, and additional checkout controls.
UPS shipping rates are calculated using the warehouse origin, customer destination, package weight, product dimensions, packaging configuration, residential or commercial status, and enabled UPS services. The extension sends this shipment information directly to UPS and displays the available live rates during checkout.
To configure your warehouse origin, navigate to Admin → Stores → Configuration → Sales → Shipping Settings. The configured origin address is used as the shipment starting point when requesting rates from UPS.
The extension supports packages weighing up to the limits allowed by UPS. When the total shipment exceeds the configured maximum package weight, the module can automatically divide the order into multiple packages and request combined shipping rates.
UPS REST API and OAuth 2.0: This extension supports the latest UPS REST API authentication flow. You must create an application through the UPS Developer Portal and generate a Client ID and Client Secret. These credentials are entered in Magento Admin and used to generate secure OAuth 2.0 access tokens.
Supported Platforms: Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce 2.3.x and 2.4.x. Compatibility may depend on the installed PHP version, checkout customizations, and other shipping modules.
Magento includes a basic UPS carrier integration, but many merchants require more advanced control over rates, packaging, labels, product dimensions, and checkout behavior. The EcomPlugins extension extends the standard UPS workflow with features designed for real-world shipping operations.
Note: Magento’s default functionality can vary by version and configuration. The comparison above focuses on the additional controls and operational features provided by the EcomPlugins extension.
The module displays the UPS shipping services available for the configured origin, destination, package details, and UPS account. Depending on account eligibility and shipment details, supported services may include:
Only services returned by the UPS API for the current shipment will be displayed during checkout.
The extension sends shipment details directly to UPS and retrieves real-time shipping rates based on your UPS account and package configuration.
The rate request may include:
UPS returns the eligible shipping methods and prices, which Magento displays during checkout or admin order creation.
Accurate shipping rates depend heavily on accurate packaging. The EcomPlugins extension offers additional packaging controls for merchants whose products cannot be rated correctly using a single combined order weight.
When the shipment exceeds the configured maximum package weight, the extension can automatically divide the order into multiple packages. UPS rates each package, and Magento displays the combined shipping charge.
Length, width, height, and weight can be defined at the product level. These values help generate more accurate dimensional and package-based shipping rates.
Merchants can define how many units fit inside a shipping box or pack. For example, if one box holds ten units and the customer orders twenty-five units, the extension can calculate the required number of packages based on the configured pack quantity.
Products marked to ship separately are sent to UPS as individual packages. This is useful for fragile, oversized, irregular, or manufacturer-packed products.
The extension can manage products that exceed configured dimension or weight limits. Depending on your settings, it can request applicable UPS rates, use alternative packaging logic, or hide UPS methods when the shipment is not eligible.
UPS may charge different rates for residential and commercial deliveries. Incorrect classification can cause inaccurate checkout rates and unexpected residential surcharges after shipment processing.
The module can use the UPS Address Validation API to determine whether the customer’s destination is residential or commercial before requesting rates. If the API does not return a classification, the module uses the default value configured in Magento Admin.
Merchants requiring a dedicated address-type solution can also review the Magento 2 UPS Residential and Commercial Address Checker.
For full customer address standardization and suggested-address selection, see the Magento 2 UPS Checkout Address Validation extension.
Merchants with negotiated UPS pricing can enable account-level discounted rates. When supported by the UPS account and API response, customers will see shipping prices based on the merchant’s negotiated UPS agreement rather than only published retail rates.
This helps businesses pass discounted shipping rates to customers or apply a configurable markup before displaying the final checkout price.
The extension allows merchants to adjust UPS shipping rates before displaying them to customers.
Merchants can configure free-shipping conditions while continuing to use UPS rate calculations for other orders.
The extension allows administrators to create UPS shipping labels directly from Magento Admin. Shipment and package details are sent to UPS, and the returned label can be used by the fulfillment team.
Tracking information created during shipment processing is saved in Magento and can be made available to customers through order emails and the customer account area.
This creates a more streamlined fulfillment workflow and reduces the need to manually copy tracking numbers between UPS and Magento.
Repeated shipping-rate requests can increase checkout latency and consume unnecessary API resources. The module includes request caching to reduce duplicate calls when the same cart and destination details are submitted repeatedly.
Detailed logging helps merchants and developers diagnose rate, authentication, address, and packaging issues.
Sensitive credentials should be excluded or masked in production logs.
Complete the following steps to configure the extension:
A UPS account and valid UPS Developer API credentials are required. For the current REST API integration, configure the Client ID and Client Secret created through the UPS Developer Portal.
Legacy UPS Username, Password, and Access License Number credentials apply only to older XML-based integrations and should not be used for the current OAuth 2.0 REST API configuration unless a legacy version of the extension is installed.
Standard UPS shipping charges apply according to your UPS account and negotiated agreement.
Extension updates and support are available for $99.95 per year after the first year.

We purchased the FedEx Freight extension after considering if we wanted to build internally. Great decision! EcomPlugins extension was high quality and they had very fast communication and turnaround for a couple of tweaks. Thanks EcomPlugins!
We purchased the UPS Address Validation plugin for Magento and it was very easy to install and configure. User and installation guide was very well written and clear. We discovered an issue with the latest version of Magento and the plugin, and the support team responded within hours and already had a fix in place and new version ready for us to download. Ecomplugins is a great team and have bought several plugins from them now and always satisfied.
We bought EcomPlugins FedEx Rest API Extension. This is the only FedEx Rest API Extension supported in older version of Magento. EcomPlugins support team was so helpful and modified and provided us the extension to support our older PHP version. They were on top of our each request and provided quick solution for issues we faced due to older version of PHP, Magento. This extension supports shipping rates based on dimensions which Magento out of the box doesn't support.
In regards to their solution FedEx REST API for Magento 2 it has been an excellent replacement to the old SOAP based FedEx module packaged with M2. Many more features such as LxWxH attributes and packaging settings. We had some small issues initially and they were quick to resolve and assist. Highly recommended!!!
Purchased several plugins from them. They even made quick and thorough customization changes for our FedEx Shipping plugin. Will work with again!
