Please Note: The Magento 2 UPS Ground Saver Shipping Extension is independently developed by EcomPlugins. It is not created, endorsed, maintained, or supported by UPS. This downloadable Magento 2 extension requires a one-time purchase and connects Magento 2 or Adobe Commerce with UPS shipping services.
UPS Ground Saver was previously known as UPS SurePost. The service may still appear as UPS SurePost in older UPS accounts, API configurations, documentation, order records, and merchant workflows. This product page uses both names to help merchants who are searching for either the current UPS Ground Saver service or the former UPS SurePost service.
UPS Ground Saver is an economical residential shipping service designed primarily for lower-cost, non-urgent package delivery. Depending on the shipment and destination, final delivery may be completed by UPS or USPS.
The Magento 2 UPS Ground Saver Extension retrieves live UPS Ground Saver shipping rates and displays them on the shopping cart, checkout, and Magento Admin order creation pages. Rates are calculated using the merchant’s warehouse address, customer destination, order weight, package dimensions, residential-delivery settings, and configured UPS account rates.
Configure the warehouse origin address under Admin → Stores → Configuration → Sales → Shipping Settings. After the UPS API credentials and Ground Saver account details are configured, the extension sends package information to UPS and displays the eligible shipping rate returned for the customer’s address.
This extension provides additional control over UPS Ground Saver calculations, including minimum and maximum order weights, package-dimension limits, residential-delivery settings, product-level extra weight, fixed or percentage rate markup, free-shipping conditions, shipping-label creation, shipment tracking, and custom error handling.
Latest UPS API Integration: The extension connects Magento with UPS APIs using the credentials and services enabled for the merchant’s UPS account. Access to UPS Ground Saver is not automatically included with every UPS account. Merchants may need to contact their UPS account representative to confirm that Ground Saver service and applicable API permissions are enabled.
Magento includes a standard UPS shipping integration, but it does not provide a dedicated configuration and workflow for every merchant’s UPS Ground Saver requirements. Service availability may also depend on the merchant’s UPS contract and the services returned for the configured account.
The EcomPlugins extension is designed for merchants who need greater control over UPS Ground Saver rates, package restrictions, residential shipping, product-level shipping weight, rate adjustments, shipping labels, tracking, and free-shipping rules.
It can be used by Magento stores that still refer to the service as UPS SurePost as well as stores that have transitioned to the current UPS Ground Saver name.
UPS Ground Saver is the current name for the service previously known as UPS SurePost. Merchants may continue to see the SurePost name in older documentation, integrations, contracts, account settings, ERP systems, order records, or internal shipping procedures.
The extension is suitable for merchants searching for:
The displayed service name may depend on the extension version, UPS API response, UPS account configuration, and terminology used by the merchant. Contact EcomPlugins when assistance is required to change the frontend shipping-method title.
UPS Ground Saver is intended primarily for economical delivery of non-urgent residential packages. It can be useful for ecommerce stores that want to provide a lower-cost alternative to standard UPS Ground when the customer does not require expedited delivery.
UPS determines service availability, delivery coverage, transit expectations, rates, surcharges, package eligibility, and final-mile delivery handling.
UPS Ground Saver is primarily designed for eligible residential deliveries. The extension allows the Magento administrator to configure the address type used when building the shipping-rate request.
Merchants should verify the appropriate setting for their shipping workflow. An incorrect destination classification may affect service availability or the rate returned by UPS.
The extension allows merchants to control when UPS Ground Saver appears according to the total physical weight of the shopping cart.
For example, a merchant can configure Ground Saver only for lightweight orders and use another UPS service when the total shipment weight exceeds the preferred Ground Saver range.
Some products require additional packaging, protective material, inserts, or shipping supplies that increase the actual shipment weight. The extension allows the merchant to configure extra shipping weight at the product level.
For example, a product weighing 5 lbs may require 1 lb of protective packaging. The extension can use the resulting shipping weight when requesting the Ground Saver rate.
UPS service eligibility can depend on package dimensions in addition to shipment weight. The extension allows the merchant to define maximum dimensions for packages that can use Ground Saver.
Actual UPS size and weight restrictions may change and can depend on the merchant’s contract and service area. The Magento settings should be configured according to the current requirements supplied by UPS.
The extension allows merchants to adjust the shipping rate returned by UPS before displaying it to the customer. This can help recover packaging, labor, warehouse-processing, or handling costs.
For example, the merchant can add a fixed $2.00 handling charge or apply a percentage adjustment to the UPS amount returned for the shipment.
The extension provides options for offering free Ground Saver shipping to qualifying customers and orders.
The merchant remains responsible for the shipping charges billed by UPS even when the customer receives free shipping during Magento checkout.
The extension can create eligible UPS Ground Saver shipping labels from Magento Admin. Label availability depends on the merchant’s UPS account, API permissions, service contract, shipment information, and extension configuration.
Depending on the service arrangement and destination, shipment information may include UPS and USPS-related tracking or final-mile details. The actual tracking identifiers are determined and returned by UPS.
The extension stores the shipment tracking information returned during label creation and makes it available through Magento’s shipment workflow.
Tracking events, scans, estimated delivery information, final-mile handling, and delivery status are supplied by UPS or its applicable delivery partner.
UPS may be unable to return a Ground Saver rate when the service is not enabled, the destination is not eligible, package information is invalid, account credentials are incorrect, or the UPS API is temporarily unavailable.
The extension allows the merchant to configure a customer-friendly error message instead of displaying a technical API response.
The extension can calculate shipping for common Magento product types when physical weight and shipping information are available.
The final order weight and package information depend on the product configuration, selected child products, ordered quantities, standard product weight, and configured extra shipping weight.
Create or use an existing UPS account. UPS Ground Saver is generally a contract-based service and may not be automatically available for every UPS account.
Before installing or configuring the extension, contact your UPS account representative and confirm:
EcomPlugins cannot activate Ground Saver service or negotiate shipping rates on behalf of the merchant. Account approval, service eligibility, pricing, billing, coverage, and contract terms are controlled by UPS.
Create an application through the UPS Developer Portal and obtain the credentials required for the UPS APIs used by the extension.
Depending on the extension release and UPS configuration, the following information may be required:
The extension does not automatically create or approve a UPS account. Merchants must obtain their account, API credentials, Ground Saver permissions, and negotiated shipping rates directly from UPS.
The EcomPlugins extension is a downloadable Magento 2 product available through a one-time purchase. The extension license does not include UPS shipping charges, UPS account fees, surcharges, contract fees, or other carrier costs.
UPS generally does not charge merchants separately for standard API requests. However, all shipment costs, residential charges, fuel surcharges, service fees, adjustments, and other carrier charges are billed according to the merchant’s agreement with UPS.
Ground Saver rates shown in Magento are based on the credentials, account, contract, and shipment information submitted to UPS.
The extension is developed for Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce. Compatibility depends on the purchased extension release, Magento version, PHP version, installed security patches, custom checkout, third-party shipping modules, and other store customizations.

We purchased the FedEx Freight extension after considering if we wanted to build internally. Great decision! EcomPlugins extension was high quality and they had very fast communication and turnaround for a couple of tweaks. Thanks EcomPlugins!
We purchased the UPS Address Validation plugin for Magento and it was very easy to install and configure. User and installation guide was very well written and clear. We discovered an issue with the latest version of Magento and the plugin, and the support team responded within hours and already had a fix in place and new version ready for us to download. Ecomplugins is a great team and have bought several plugins from them now and always satisfied.
We bought EcomPlugins FedEx Rest API Extension. This is the only FedEx Rest API Extension supported in older version of Magento. EcomPlugins support team was so helpful and modified and provided us the extension to support our older PHP version. They were on top of our each request and provided quick solution for issues we faced due to older version of PHP, Magento. This extension supports shipping rates based on dimensions which Magento out of the box doesn't support.
In regards to their solution FedEx REST API for Magento 2 it has been an excellent replacement to the old SOAP based FedEx module packaged with M2. Many more features such as LxWxH attributes and packaging settings. We had some small issues initially and they were quick to resolve and assist. Highly recommended!!!
Purchased several plugins from them. They even made quick and thorough customization changes for our FedEx Shipping plugin. Will work with again!
